Every Tuesday morning at 10:30, I witness a modern miracle. Some say miracles no longer happen, such as Jesus feeding 5000 with a few fish and loaves of bread. This modern miracle is that a few very dedicated people find a way to get a host of ordinary people to engage their best versions of themselves to provide food to their needy neighbors…
Peter N.
I continue to be amazed at this organization – this community of hard working and compassionate people that come together. My experience with this group has gone well beyond my expectations. I know it’s each individual that makes this quite amazing!

FAQ’s for Volunteers

What is the process to become a volunteer?

Becoming a volunteer with us is easy! Just fill out an application here and we’ll get back to you within 48 hours with your login information. You will then have access to our schedule where you can sign up to join the fun! We have something for everyone and have lots of different shifts and jobs to match your skills and schedule.

What if it’s my first time visiting Feeding Hands?

Please allow extra time to find our location if you are planning on visiting for the first time. With construction on 206, it can sometimes be difficult to find our signage. Also, depending on the day and hour traffic on 206 may be challenging.

Can I volunteer with my family?

Absolutely! We have seen families and teens become the best versions of themselves while serving together. For safety reasons and to ensure the best possible experience for everyone, we expect all our volunteers to follow our processes, have self-awareness, and be capable of mature and respectful behavior.

What if there are no available openings?

Didn’t we tell you that our volunteerism is contagious! Our volunteers are passionate about volunteering their time with us and slots fill quickly. We suggest you check back with us frequently.

What does volunteering at Feeding Hands look like?

First and foremost it is fun and different! There are a variety of volunteer roles at Feeding Hands depending on the day of service. Many roles are physical in nature requiring standing, packing boxes, pushing carts or organizing goods, but other roles such as talking with guests and helping direct people or other administrative tasks also exist. Volunteer shifts are typically around 3 hours, with opportunities for shifts on weekdays and evenings, as well as on the 3rd Saturday morning of every month. Need to brush up on your Spanish? We are always in need of bilingual volunteers to help translate and bridge the communication gap between us and our guests.

What if I don’t know what to do?

Don’t worry – training is included! Each of our volunteer roles are guided by seasoned volunteers and/or staff members who are always helpful and eager to assist with fulfilling the needs while training others to do the same. Be sure to arrive at least 15 minutes early on your first visit for an orientation tour.

What are the qualifications to volunteer at Feeding Hands?

Our volunteer community will demonstrate our core values of empathy, connection, and stewardship which are designed to provide groceries with dignity and in a non-judgemental manner reflecting The Golden Rule. You also have to like to have fun! We always need a number of people who are able to lift 30 pounds or more. Most positions require being able to stand on your feet for the length of your shift.

Does Feeding Hands serve everyone?

Didn’t we say we value empathy? Feeding Hands does not discriminate based on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, religion, age, or disability.

Can I stay while my teen volunteers?

No. Recognize that volunteering is more than checking a service hour requirement. It allows your teen to develop the necessary adult skills of advocating and speaking for themselves and better understanding real world issues. You are welcome to accompany them inside on their first visit so you can be comfortable with the safety of your teen in our environment. However, due to the volume of volunteers that need to be given tasks and instructions before we can begin serving guests, you cannot stay. We ask that you drop off your teen and return at the end of their shift. If your teen requires special accommodations or support please speak with us in advance.

Can I volunteer with my Church or small group?

We love our church partners and encourage them to come and see God’s faithfulness in action. Volunteering as a small group of 6 to 8 people is a great way to experience this first hand! Contact us at hello@feedinghandspantry.org to facilitate a group visit or register individually for serving on the same date together.

Can my business or company volunteer?

Feeding Hands offers exceptional team-building opportunities through volunteering. Please contact us at hello@feedinghandspantry.org to find out about openings for your group and the logistics necessary to give you the best experience and meet our needs and your expectations. We expect you will arrive with a donation to help not only cover the cost of your team event, but also help us to fund the expenses of distributing food to those in need. Group volunteering onsite at our pantry is available but space is limited. Preference is given to those who support our mission financially.

With a school or other organization?

Looking to get involved in your community and give back? You can do this right from your place of meeting by running a personal hygiene/household cleaner drive, hosting a bake sale, or any sort of event of your choosing. We encourage you to get creative and get your community involved! Group volunteering onsite at our pantry is available but space is limited. Contact us at hello@feedinghandspantry.org if you’re interested in getting involved.
